I wanted to give them a shower/Christmas gift. Scrolling through Pinterest (of course), I've seen many cute DIY coasters, so here is my version!
First, I went to Home Depot and grabbed four white 4x4 ceramic tiles. There were a few different kinds, but I liked these the best (and they were the cheapest! With tax, it was less than two quarters.)
Then I sat...and sat...and sat...What in the world should I do to these? I thought about doing the alcohol-dye seen here, and then I thought about doing the lace and spray paint seen here, but none of those just seemed quite right for the future Mr&Mrs. After the near-disaster of the Sharpie Mugs (click here), I was a little hesitant to Sharpie the tiles. But I thought: What's the worst that can happen?
Enter an alphabet stencil from HobLob (Hobby Lobby is great! Except for some reason, I have the biggest urges to go on Sundays...)
I traced the outline of the letter with pencil first. It wasn't a dark line, but it was just enough for me to trace over with the Sharpie.
I have shakey hands when I concentrate, so my coasters don't exactly match perfectly, but that's ok! After I traced the "M", I colored it in, and added a little something extra.
Next I went ahead and baked the coasters like I did the mugs (click here!)
After they had cooled, I cut out four squares of black felt to hot glue onto the bottom. I made the squares slightly smaller than the coaster so they wouldn't hang over the edge.
Next, I sprayed them with clear coat (the same that I used on the mugs) This particular one is waterproof, which makes it the perfect coat for coasters!
Lastly, I tied them up with a pretty ribbon...
Happy Wedding Best Friends!
